Celebrating Deepavali at CCKSS: A Festive Collaboration with PSG

Deepavali, the festival of lights, is a time for joy, togetherness, and cultural celebration, and this year, CCKSS took the celebrations to a whole new level with a series of vibrant events. The Parent Support Group (PSG) was honored to play a key role in supporting these festivities, adding our touch to the joyous occasion. As always, our goal was to contribute to the school community and enrich the cultural experiences of the students.

We were involved in two exciting events that made this year's Deepavali celebrations truly special:

1. Kolam Drawing Event (18th October, 10am)

Kolam, an intricate and colorful art form made with rice flour, symbolizes prosperity and welcomes happiness into homes during Deepavali. On the 18th of October, we gathered at the school to witness students create stunning kolam designs as part of the celebration. The bright colors and detailed patterns transformed the space into a lively display of tradition and creativity.

The event was a huge success, with students showcasing their artistic talents and learning about the cultural significance of kolam. It was wonderful to see them fully engaged in the process, understanding how these patterns reflect the beauty of the Deepavali spirit. As PSG members, we were proud to be present, supporting and encouraging their creativity.

2. Deepavali Bazaar (22nd October, 8.30am - 1.30pm)

The highlight of the celebrations was the Deepavali Bazaar, held on the 22nd of October. From 8.30am to 1.30pm, the school was buzzing with excitement, as booths lined up with a variety of festive activities. The atmosphere was electric, with music, food, and laughter filling the air, creating a sense of community and joy.

Our PSG volunteers had the privilege of supporting three hands-on and interactive activities that were a hit among students:

- Henna Drawing: Henna, or mehndi, is a beautiful tradition that adds to the festive charm of Deepavali. Our talented volunteers helped students create stunning henna designs on their hands, showcasing their creativity while teaching them about the cultural importance of this art form.

- Garland Making: A traditional practice during festivals, garlands symbolize purity, beauty, and good luck. Our booth allowed students to craft their own garlands using colorful flowers, giving them a chance to explore another aspect of Deepavali's rich heritage.

- Saree and Dhoti Tying: One of the most engaging parts of the bazaar was teaching students how to tie sarees and dhotis. These traditional garments are deeply significant during Indian festivals, and many students were eager to learn how to wear them correctly. Our volunteers patiently demonstrated the steps, helping students embrace and appreciate the culture.

A Special Thank You

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all our PSG volunteers who dedicated their time and efforts to making these events a success. We are also incredibly grateful to the school for giving us the opportunity to be part of such a vibrant celebration.

As we look back on the day’s events, we are filled with pride and gratitude for the way our school community came together to celebrate Deepavali with joy, inclusiveness, and a true spirit of togetherness. Here’s to many more festive celebrations in the future!

Happy Deepavali from the PSG! 🪔✨
