This school holiday week on 3rd September 2024, the Parent Support Group (PSG) had the wonderful opportunity to join our school's teachers and administrative staff for a much-anticipated day trip to Johor Bahru (JB). It was a day filled with laughter, bonding, and unexpected adventures—one that left us all feeling incredibly grateful and connected.
As we set off early in the morning, the air was buzzing with excitement. It wasn’t just about crossing the border for some fun, but about the chance to spend quality time with the educators and staff who work so hard to shape the lives of our children. From the first hello, it was clear that this trip was going to be something special, with friendships blossoming over shared conversations and the common goal of supporting our students.
Food, Fun, and Friendship
The day unfolded with plenty of great food—JB never disappoints when it comes to tantalizing local delicacies! Over plates of nasi lemak, sambal, and satay, we shared stories, experiences, and had many heartfelt conversations. Whether it was discussing the latest school happenings or simply getting to know one another better, the meal times were full of laughter and connection.
Shopping was another highlight of the day, giving us a chance to unwind and enjoy each other’s company in a more casual setting. Browsing through stores, picking out souvenirs, and indulging in some retail therapy added a light-hearted touch to the day. It was a wonderful reminder of the balance between work, play, and the importance of enjoying the moment.
A Rainy Adventure Turned Thrilling
One of the main attractions of the trip was meant to be a relaxing tour of the mangroves, but the weather had other plans. As the skies opened up with heavy rain, it quickly became clear that we would need to change course. While the downpour disrupted our original plans, it didn't dampen our spirits.
Instead of the mangrove tour, we embarked on a thrilling boat ride around Kukup Island. The rain added an extra layer of excitement to the ride, and what could have been a setback turned into an adventure. The beauty of Kukup Island from the water, with the mist rising from the sea and the raindrops creating ripples, was breathtaking. It was a perfect metaphor for how sometimes the unexpected can bring the most memorable experiences.
Gratitude and Looking Ahead
As we reflect on the trip, what stands out most is the deep sense of gratitude. This day trip was more than just an outing; it was a reminder of how important it is to create opportunities for connection and to cherish those moments when we can step outside of our daily routines to bond with one another. The teachers, school admin, and PSG members all came together in a beautiful way, creating a sense of unity that will carry through into our continued work supporting the school.
A special thank you goes out to the school for inviting the PSG along for this experience. It was a privilege to be a part of such a meaningful day, and we are already looking forward to more trips in the future. These moments of connection and shared adventure help strengthen our school community, and for that, we are deeply thankful.
Here’s to many more moments like these—rain or shine! 🌧️☀️
